Greenwaves Technologies is a 5-year-old fabless semiconductor startup established in Grenoble, France. Our first product GAP8 is the world first IoT Application Processor armed with 8+1 RISC-V based cores and a high-performance HW convolution engine. It is a simple yet very sophisticated unique processor architecture, which delivers an energy efficiency that is 20x better than the state-of-the-art, opening a large range of battery-powered applications. Examples of applications are people counting, keyword spotting, combined with beamforming, object recognition, face detection and vibration analysis. GAP8 is especially effective on machine learning inference algorithms (CNN, SVM, Bayesian, Boosting, Cepstral analysis). Yet, GAP8 is by and large programmed just like a regular MCU.

We develop some reference applications to provide evidence of GAP8 performances. This could accelerate our potential customers’ evaluation and decision process, but also drive some customers to adopt those applications for their own needs.

Board development

Contribute to the development of evaluation boards and « proofs of concept » (PoC) showcasing the abilities of our GAP8 and GAP9 chips, under the supervision of an application engineer. This would typically consist of tasks such as :

  • Capture PCB schematics and route boards of medium complexity,
  • Maintain parts library,
  • Prepare BOM and other board manufacturing files,
  • Interface with the PCB manufacturer/assembler – Follow the production
  • Implement board fixes/rework – typically involving unsoldering/resoldering of small surface-mount

Test & Validation Support

  • Help characterize different aspects of our chips (for example, power consumption)
  • Bring-up and validate new evaluation boards and PoC as they come back from manufacturing
  • Work towards test automation, potentially including programming the GAP8 and GAP9 component

Ordering/Shipping and related administration

  • Manage the shipment of evaluation boards to customers, including tracking in our ERP system
  • Planification of parts stock and provisioning
  • Day to day lab maintenance

Required skills:

Technical :

  • Demonstrable experience with at least one PCB CAD tool – ideally Altium; Eagle Autodesk or KiCad also
  • appreciated
  • Sound understanding of electronic circuit design and PCB design flow (including manufacturing constraints)
  • Familiarity with the operation of standard lab equipment (oscilloscope, etc.)
  • First experience or more of C programming language in an embedded environment
  • Basic understanding of real-time embedded systems; Knowledge of common communication busses (I²C,
    UART, SPI…)
  • Knowledge of basic SMD soldering techniques and ability to replace small SMD parts

Non-technical :

  • Good level of spoken and written English, to be used daily to communicate with colleagues and
  • international partners
  • Professional proficiency in French, to communicate with colleagues and French partners

  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively on assigned tasks.

    previous job or as a « maker’s » hobby
